About Bongo John
At the age of 57, there are many stories to tell, mostly of the musical kind.
I started playing drums at the age of 8, taking lessons from Percussion Ensemble students at the University of Oklahoma. I was first chair snare drummer throughout my schooling up until college. I had obtained a nice drum kit at the age of 14, a Ludwig Birch kit which I held onto for many years.
Playing with multiple bands, jamming in an underground tornado shelter, I was having fun tinkering with sample sounds and with an old Peavey 4-track cassette recorder. Synthesis on keys, and electronic drums were already in the equation of my creativity.
Fast forward to current times, I still am part of a creative movement of local musicians, artists, videographers, and other professional people in the music & film industry here in NC. I’ve been in the music industry as a professional recording engineer for over 20 years. I also have extensive experience with video work, filming local bands on location as well as in-studio filming of performances.
